This page is the part of the AvailSuite online help.

AvailSuite is a software solution for managing a small or medium service business. It covers all critical activities of small companies, like customer and work order management, invoices and account receivables, employee scheduling, and task management.
Installing AvailSuite

Run AvailSuite setup and follow the instructions. The first thing the setup program does is to check if .NET Framework 1.1 is installed on the computer. If it is not, it will be installed (if you use the Complete installation package) or downloaded and then installed (if you use the Smart installation package). After .NET framework 1.1 is installed, the system may ask you to restart Windows before continue.

There are three types of setup available: Complete Application, Additional Seat, and Advanced Setup.

The Complete Application setup should work for anyone who is going to evaluate AvailSuite. If you already have AvailSuite installed on a computer, and would like to install one more AvailSuite's client program on another computer, use the Additional Seat option.

During the Complete Application setup, the installation package will ask you about creating a new database server or using an existing one. If you do not know what to do with the option, use the default option: Create a new SQL instance (AvailSuite).

If you know that you have MS SQL 2000, MS SQL 2005 or MSDE instances installed, and would like to use them for storing AvailSuite's data, use the Use an existing SQL instance option. In this case, please pay attention to an authentication choice. You may select the way the setup program connects to the database. The default choice is Windows authentication of the current user. This assumes that the current user has enough privileges to logon to SQL Server. You may change Windows authentication to direct username and password method. Please note that this authentication will be used only during installation and only if the setup program uses an existing MS SQL Server or MSDE instance.

The Advanced setup gives more control over how the application is going to be installed. More specifically, it is possible to install just the AvailSuite database (without the client program) or just the AvailSuite client, connecting it to an existing database. This is required for multi-user installations, which we will review next.
